Matter pertaining to the invitation of the Most Venerable Maha Nayaka Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter to the Conference on Constitutional Reforms held on 28th June, 2017:

Some newspapers in the mainstream media have reported that the Ven. Maha Sangha including the Most Ven. Maha Nayaka Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter and/or his representative has not been invited to the Conference on Constitutional Reforms held on 28th June 2017, at the BMICH. It is also reported that the Sangha Sabha has concluded that the conference has proceeded without due invites being sent to the Ven. Maha Sangha.

The Constitutional Assembly Secretariat of Sri Lanka hosted a national conference on constitutional reforms on Wednesday the 28th of June 2017 at the BMICH. The full day Conference, which took place from 9:30am onwards, was aimed at bringing together a range of stakeholders from across diverse sectors in order to help promote the discourse surrounding the adoption of constitutional reforms for the people of Sri Lanka. The event was graced by the presence of the Hon. Prime Minister, Members of the Constitutional Assembly, foreign envoys, provincial government representatives, key officials from state institutions such as the Sri Lanka Police, the Attorney-General’s Department, the Legal Draftsman’s Department and the Human Rights Commission, representatives from NGOs, experts and members of academia.

The Constitutional Assembly Secretariat of Sri Lanka will hold a national conference on constitutional reforms on Wednesday the 28th of June 2017 as part of outreach efforts in relation to the current constitutional reform process in Sri Lanka. The occasion will be graced by the Hon. Prime Minister, Members of the Constitutional Assembly of Sri Lanka and other distinguished guests from across diverse sectors, ensuring the widest possible participation.

The third sitting of the Constitutional Assembly was held on 19th November 2016 at 9.00am in the Chamber of Parliament, and was presided over by Hon. Karu Jayasuriya as Chairman of the Constitutional Assembly.
 
The First Interim Report of the Steering Committee was presented to the Constitutional Assembly by Hon. Ranil Wicremesinghe in the capacity of Chairman of the Steering Committee.
