Update on the Constitutional reform process

The Steering Committee of the Constitutional Assembly met on 18th July 2018.

The Panel of Experts have been working on a document which can be used by the Steering Committee as a base to prepare the Draft Constitutional Proposal. The document draws on the content of the Interim report which was released by the Steering Committee in September 2017, and the reports of the Subcommittees on Fundamental Rights, Judiciary, Finance, Public service, Centre-Periphery relations and Law and Order as well as the political party positions.

At the meeting, it was agreed that the Panel of Experts would finalise this document and submit it to the Steering Committee in two weeks time. The Steering Committee will draw on this document to make the Draft Constitutional proposal. To date no Draft Constitutional Proposal has been prepared by the Steering Committee. When such a Draft Constitutional Proposal is prepared and made public it will be made available through the Constitutional Assembly website.

For updates on the reform process please check the Constitutional Assembly website (www.constitutionalassembly.lk) and social media. The Interim report and the Subcommittee reports can also be downloaded from Constitutional Assembly site.
